Mastercard organized its first Africa Esports Summit in Casablanca on November 12, 2024. The event gathered financial and gaming sector representatives, including officials from the Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communications.
The summit featured discussions on payment technologies and regulatory frameworks for the gaming sector. Speakers included Hicham El Khlifi, President of the African Esports Confederation, and Mohamed Benomar, Mastercard's Country General Manager of North West Africa.
The Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communications participated in sessions addressing esports infrastructure development and industry regulations. Topics covered included payment solutions and mobile money innovations within the gaming sector.
«This summit is a landmark moment for esports in Africa», said El Khlifi during the event. He noted the importance of securing investments and partnerships for industry development.
The event addressed the integration of gaming with payment solutions and discussed regulatory requirements for Morocco's esports sector. Representatives from Riot Games and other gaming companies also attended the summit, which focused on technical and financial aspects of the gaming industry's development in Morocco.
