On Algerian soil, the Polisario Front quietly marked the 4th anniversary of its so-called «war» against Morocco, launched on November 13, 2020. This year's commemoration was notable for the absence of Brahim Ghali, the Front’s self-proclaimed «Minister of Defense».
He was replaced by the «Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense», who addressed a gathering of Polisario militia leaders. In his speech, he emphasized the «Sahrawi people's determination to continue their armed struggle», according to the Front's official agency.
The event was held discreetly, without a military parade or coverage by other Polisario-aligned media outlets in Algeria or the Sahara. It took place in a khaima (tent), away from the public eye in the Tindouf camps, where residents have recently been burying Polisario fighters killed by drone strikes carried out by the Royal Armed Forces (RAF).
In 2022, a Royal Armed Forces drone disrupted the Front's 2nd anniversary commemoration of its «war», forcing security forces to evacuate Brahim Ghali from the site.
