The Paraguayan Senate has adopted a resolution urging the government to support Morocco's 2007 autonomy plan for the Sahara. The upper house described the Moroccan initiative as «a basis for achieving a peaceful, just, and lasting solution that satisfies all parties, while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco».

This move further consolidates Rabat's position in Paraguay. In 2018, Paraguayan deputies passed a similar resolution backing Morocco's autonomy initiative. That same year, during a meeting in New York, former Foreign Minister Luis Alberto Castiglioni expressed his country's support for Morocco's territorial integrity to his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.

The current president, Santiago Peña, who took office in August 2023, shares the political affiliation of his predecessor, Mario Abdo, as a member of the right-wing National Republican Association - Colorado Party (ANR-PC). Paraguay severed ties with the so-called «SADR» in January 2014. Rabat now hopes that Paraguay’s ongoing support for the Moroccanity of the Sahara will lead to the opening of a Paraguayan consulate in the region.
