Consultations between Morocco and Iran, with a view to resuming diplomatic relations severed since May 1, 2018, are continuing. We learn that the capital of Saudi Arabia is hosting a new round of talks between security officials from the two countries, with the participation of Saudi and Emirati mediators.

The holding of this round in Riyadh suggests that the Morocco-Iran dialogue is on the right track. For the record, at the Rabat meeting in early November, the Moroccan side presented its conditions. Iran's support for the Polisario was at the heart of the meeting. It is worth noting that on February 27, 1980, the Iranian regime recognized the «SADR». This decision led to the first break in relations between the two states.

In 1998, following a visit by Prime Minister Abderrahmane El Youssoufi, Teheran announced a «suspension» of its recognition of the «SADR», while its relations with Algeria were severed. This parenthesis was quickly closed after the resumption of ties with Algiers in 2000, followed by cooperation with the Polisario.
