Spanish Socialist Workers' Party is holding its 41st congress on November 29 and 30. The PSOE leadership has presented delegates with a 171-page document addressing national and international issues, titled «Spain 2030: Socialism Moving Forward, a Leading Spain», which includes a set of recommendations.
The document, reviewed by Yabiladi, notably omits any mention of the Western Sahara issue, drawing criticism from Spanish media aligned with the Polisario. These outlets have urged the Socialists to propose amendments condemning Pedro Sanchez's support for Morocco's autonomy plan. Instead, the Socialist document focuses on strengthening cooperation with Mediterranean countries, Africa, and Latin America.
For context, the PSOE had already excluded the Polisario from its 2024-2028 program, which was unveiled last January. The program also did not include the traditional humanitarian support for «Sahrawi refugees in the Tindouf camps».
The last time the PSOE addressed the Polisario was in September 2019. In order to secure the vote of 40 Podemos deputies for Pedro Sanchez's investiture as Prime Minister, especially after his initial failure on July 25, 2019, the Socialists had called for «an extension of MINURSO's mandate to include monitoring human rights in Western Sahara».
