The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, received the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara Leaf, on Friday, November 22, in Rabat. Following these talks with the head of diplomacy, Leaf reaffirmed «the United States' support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative as a serious, credible, and realistic solution to the Sahara issue», indicated the Moroccan ministry.
She emphasized that «the United States welcomes Morocco's crucial role in promoting a more peaceful and secure Middle East, as well as the Kingdom's leadership in addressing humanitarian needs in Gaza», added the same source.
As a reminder, the United States recognized Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara on December 10, 2020.
Barbara Leaf visited Algiers on Tuesday, where she had meetings with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Algerian diplomacy announced that the issue of Western Sahara was on the agenda of the talks between Ahmed Attaf and Barbara Leaf.
