First Lieutenant General Mohamed Berriz, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, received on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the headquarters of the Southern Zone Command in Agadir, Lieutenant General Fakhrul Ahsan, Commander for MINURSO.

According to the Royal Armed Forces' Facebook page, the meeting addressed «the latest developments in the security situation, particularly the terrorist attack carried out by militias against a civilian gathering during the celebrations organized in Mahbes on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Green March».

Armed elements of the Polisario Front militia launched four shells on November 9th on Mahbes, near the border with the Tindouf province in Algeria, landing near tents that housed Sahrawi civilians celebrating the 49th anniversary of the Green March, without causing casualties.

The Royal Armed Forces responded by targeting the attackers, who were in four four-wheel-drive vehicles, resulting in casualties among them.

According to the Royal Armed Forces' page, First Lieutenant General Mohamed Berriz and Lieutenant General Fakhrul Ahsan praised the exceptional level of relations and the commitment of both parties to work for peace, security, and stability in the region.

The same source explained that this meeting falls within the framework of periodic meetings between the Royal Armed Forces and the United Nations Mission in the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
