Five Israelis were reportedly killed in a car accident in Morocco. Israeli media reported on Friday that the fatal crash happened near the city of Ouarzazate.

ZAKA, Disaster Victim Identification, a voluntary post-disaster response team in Israel, told Israeli media that on Friday morning it had received a report that a car carrying five Israelis had overturned after the driver lost control.

The five victims are from Safed, a city in the Northern District of Israel. The mayor of the city announced the sad news in a statement to residents. «It is with great sadness that I learned of a serious car accident that occurred tonight in Morocco, involving a number of Safed residents», he said.

«We are in constant contact with the Foreign Ministry and the official authorities handling the incident», he reassured.

Moroccan authorities and members of ZAKA are working closely to help repatriate the victims, the organization announced. «From the moment we received the report, we in the international unit have been working with the authorities in Morocco to expedite the process of releasing and identifying the bodies, and also to assist the families in doing everything possible to bring them to burial», said Haim Weingarten, Deputy Director General of ZAKA.
