«The Moroccan Benefactors of Corsica» have demonstrated remarkable generosity by raising €10,000 to support the Diocese of Corsica in organizing the papal visit scheduled for Ajaccio on December 15. This gesture, described as «a testimony of love and fraternity towards all the inhabitants of Corsica», highlights the association's commitment to the island community.
The president of the association, Miloud Mesghati, explained that the initiative aimed to «express fraternal support to the Christian community of Corsica». In a statement dated December 2, the association described the donation as «a bridge between our communities, a gateway that testifies to our common humanism and our ability to transcend cultural and religious differences».
Mesghati, in contact with Cardinal Bustillo, learned about an online donation campaign, reports France3 Régions. «We gathered with the members of the association and decided to participate», he said. Each member contributed according to their means, allowing the total sum of €10,000 to be raised.
He also emphasized that this initiative seeks to demonstrate the Moroccan community's integral role in the island's social and economic fabric. «Especially since Morocco was the first Muslim country to host the Pope, John Paul II, in Casablanca in 1985», he recalled.
With 135 members, the association sees this donation as an opportunity to emphasize that «the values of fraternity, respect, and dialogue unite us». It aspires to a universal ideal where communities, regardless of beliefs, move forward together toward a more united future.
The Consulate of Morocco in Bastia highlighted on Facebook that this contribution goes beyond its financial aspect. It symbolizes solidarity and friendship between communities, underscoring shared values of humanism and mutual respect that transcend cultural and religious differences.
