While attending the International Film Festival (FIFM), held from November 29 to December 7, 2024, in Marrakech, Hollywood stars took the opportunity to explore the city’s iconic market. One of the many attractions in the Medina’s narrow streets is the Moroccan rug shops, offering handmade carpets crafted by artisans using locally sourced wool and cotton.
Australian actor Jacob Elordi, attending FIFM as a juror, was spotted visiting a rug shop, Soufiane Zarib 16, a boutique specializing in vintage and antique rugs. Run by Soufiane Zarib and his cousin Ismail Zarib, second-generation rug dealers, the shop is well-known among Hollywood stars as a go-to destination for Moroccan carpets.
«It was really nice to have Jacob visit our shop», Ismail told Vogue. «The response to the photo of his visit has been positive, and we’ve noticed a significant uptick in engagement. There seems to be more interest in our products».
Although Elordi has yet to decide on which rug to purchase, he plans to contact the Moroccan rug dealer to furnish his house, which is still under construction. «He likes our rug collection and furniture… he’s thinking of reaching out when his new house is finished», said Soufiane Zarib.
«Given the cultural significance and artistry of Moroccan carpets, it’s common for artists, cultural figures, and even tourists seeking authentic craftsmanship to be drawn to our offerings», Ismail explained. «The allure of Moroccan textiles, coupled with the storytelling behind each piece, tends to attract a creative and culturally aware audience», he added.

Their products have also garnered admiration from Balenciaga image director Johan Fleury, model Rianne van Rompaey, fashion show set designer Alexandre de Betak, designer Derek Lam, artist and designer John Derian, and chef Clare de Boer, according to Vogue.
