The Algerian authorities decided late on Thursday, December 12, to repatriate the body of Ittihad Tangier player Abdellatif Akhrif through the Zouj Beghal border crossing. This was confirmed by Hassan Ammari, the head of the Association for Assisting Migrants in Difficult Situations.
The late player went missing after embarking on a recreational trip from Restinga Beach on the outskirts of M'diq on July 6, 2024, and on August 8, his body was found on the Algerian coast. On August 14, the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie took DNA samples from his parents for identification, with results confirmed on November 28, 2024, by the Algerian General Consulate in Casablanca.
On December 2, 2024, the Consulate of the Kingdom of Morocco in Oran sent a copy of the results to the public prosecutor in the city, in order to issue a death certificate and a permit allowing the body to be repatriated to Morocco for burial.
It is noteworthy that the case of the late player had stirred widespread sympathy in the Kingdom, due to the legal complications that caused a delay in the repatriation of his body.
