OCP continues to expand in the Sahel. Morocco's phosphate giant has signed «a strategic memorandum of understanding with the Government of Niger under the aegis of the World Bank», its subsidiary OCP Africa announced on Saturday.
This partnership enables «soil mapping, the implementation of advanced fertilization models, the opening of agricultural service centers to offer farmers holistic support, facilitating access for small-scale farmers to customized fertilizers adapted to local specificities, and strengthening the technical and operational capacities of local players in partnership with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, as well as promoting youth and women entrepreneurship in agri-tech», explains the same source.
This agreement was concluded in the wake of a round table organized by the World Bank in Niger, bringing together donors, development players, the private sector, and OCP Africa.
In October, OCP Africa signed a similar agreement with the Malian government. Like Bamako, Niamey has signed up to the initiative launched on November 6, 2023, by King Mohammed VI to facilitate access to the Atlantic Ocean for Sahelian countries.
This agricultural partnership with Niger comes three days after the inauguration in Niamey of the «His Majesty King Mohammed VI» power plant, donated by Morocco.
