Algeria will hold the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council from January 1 to 31, 2025. For now, Algerian diplomacy has avoided placing the Sahara issue on the list of matters it wishes to address during this month, preferring to prioritize Palestine.

«Algeria will organize a ministerial meeting at the UN Security Council on the evolution of the Palestinian question and the situation in the Middle East», stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs during a press conference on Monday.

Algiers also plans to invite the Fifteen to examine «the extension of the scourge of terrorism and its spread in Africa», emphasized Ahmed Attaf. Algeria will also organize two meetings dedicated to Syria and Yemen.

Algerian diplomacy will have the opportunity to defend the Polisario during these meetings, as it had already done during debates held at the UN executive body in April, July, and August 2024.
