The Exchange Office issued a circular (1/2025) on Thursday, January 2, 2025, to ease and simplify the study abroad travel regulations. In addition to resident citizens and Moroccans living abroad, the circle of eligible persons now extends to foreigners born to Moroccan parents, even without a Moroccan passport. Also, students can now open an account abroad to manage their expenses.
However, the Office conditions this possibility on the closure of the account at the end of the academic stay, as well as the repatriation of funds to Morocco within 60 days. Furthermore, transfers by wire or foreign currency checks can reach the equivalent of 12 months of living expenses in advance, with a requirement for prepayment to educational institutions in the host country.
Regarding authorized expenses, these include tuition fees, living expenses, rent, and related charges. Monthly expenses are set at 12,000 dirhams, but in certain cases, this amount can be exceeded upon presentation of supporting documents.
Finally, the Exchange Office reminds that expense management must be domiciled with a bank, which is solely responsible for executing payments. The bank requires, at the beginning of each academic year, a document certifying enrollment or pre-enrollment for the current year.
