Ignoring the threats made by the Polisario, the 16th edition of the Africa Eco Race Rally continues its program. This Saturday, January 4, saw the organization of the 5th stage, spanning 629 kilometers between Laayoune and Dakhla.

«Last Moroccan stage before a well-deserved rest day! The caravan crosses the southern Moroccan desert, starting on new tracks leading to the dunes. Competitors will then race across fast sandy stretches, dotted with camel grass, until Dakhla, where the bivouac awaits them», the organizers stated in a Facebook post.

As the Africa Eco Race Rally traverses the Sahara, the Polisario leader expressed satisfaction yesterday during a meeting with Front diplomats about the «achievements made» by his movement during the four years of war against Morocco, though he did not elaborate on the specifics of these «achievements».

Before the Polisario broke the ceasefire on November 13, 2020, the passage of participants in the Africa Eco Race through El Guerguerate was conducted under the escort of MINURSO elements. This followed requests from the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres. A UN mobilization at that time aimed to prevent the blockage of the corridor between Morocco and Mauritania by members of the Front.
