China’s Shanghai Airlines will launch a route to connect Shanghai to Morocco later this month. The new one-stop route, scheduled for January 19, is an extension of the Chinese carrier’s existing Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) to Marseille Provence Airport service to Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport.
Flights will operate three times per week using Boeing 787-9 aircraft. This Shanghai-Casablanca-Marseille route is the airline’s first service to Africa and only the second link between mainland China and Morocco, in addition to Royal Air Maroc’s flights between Casablanca and Beijing Daxing International Airport.
This new route is the result of the expansion of Shanghai Airlines’ parent company, China Eastern Airlines, into North Africa, reports Aviation Week Network. The Casablanca route is also an addition to Shanghai Airlines’ first nonstop passenger service to Cairo, Egypt.
