Several Moroccan trucks involved in international goods transportation came under fire from armed gunmen during the night between Monday and Tuesday in Nioro du Sahel, a town on the Mali-Mauritania border.
Media sources reported that the incident caused material damage, though fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported among the drivers. According to Hespress, citing sources within the West African international cargo transportation sector, approximately 30 Moroccan trucks encountered difficulties while attempting to cross into Mauritania. This occurred after intense clashes erupted between armed opposition groups and the Malian army.
The attackers fired upon the Moroccan trucks parked along the border road, causing damage to the vehicles. The drivers managed to flee to safety and returned only after Malian forces regained control of the area.
Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces issued an official statement regarding the terrorist attack that occurred in Nioro du Sahel on January 6, 2024, at 10 p.m. The statement highlighted that the attack was forcefully repelled, noting that the terrorists, who infiltrated the city with internal cooperation, targeted vital sites in the region.
