Moroccan rescue teams, sent to Valencia in November 2024 to support rescue and rehabilitation efforts in areas affected by Storm Dana, have concluded their mission in Spain.

The Moroccan rescue teams, consisting of 80 personnel equipped with 25 fire trucks and maintenance and suction equipment, are set to return home today, according to the Kingdom's Consul General in Valencia, Said Idrissi Bouzidi, who spoke to Yabiladi on Thursday.

«The return started today, January 9, at noon. The teams will make a stopover in Motril this evening before setting sail tomorrow at 2 p.m. Arrival at the Tanger Med port is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. tomorrow», confirmed the diplomat.

The Moroccan rescue teams have been working since November 13 in cooperation with Spanish authorities to mitigate the impact of the floods in Valencia. This mobilization followed Morocco’s swift response to extend support to Spain after the floods on October 29, assisting in clearing mud and debris.

Regarding the death toll among the Moroccan community in Valencia, Bouzidi reassured that the number remains at eight, as previously reported to Yabiladi. However, «one woman originally from Ksar El Kebir is still missing», said the consul, raising questions about «whether her disappearance occurred during the floods or not».

The floods caused by Storm Dana claimed over 220 lives, left tens of thousands of people in Valencia without power, and disrupted transportation.
