Morocco's Medhi Benatia appointed Director of Football at Olympique de Marseille

Former Moroccan football star Medhi Benatia has been appointed as the director of football at Olympique de Marseille, according to a club press release.

This announcement follows Benatia's tenure as a sports consultant for the French club since November 2023. «Medhi Benatia is continuing his adventure at a club dear to his heart, alongside President Pablo Longoria, who facilitated his return to OM», the release stated.

Benatia's new role is part of his collaboration with the OM President on launching the club's ambitious long-term sporting project, the statement further explained.

Having trained at Olympique de Marseille and played for some of Europe's top clubs, including Bayern Munich and Juventus FC, the former captain of the Moroccan national team now assumes responsibility for the club's entire sporting strategy, spanning from the training center to the first team, OM noted.
