On Wednesday, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) announced a total of 79 reported cases of measles in Moroccan prisons. This includes seven minors, two women, and a child who is with his mother. Of the affected individuals, 27 have successfully recovered after receiving medical treatment.
The outbreak has spread across several correctional facilities, with Tangier 2 prison experiencing the highest number of cases at 25. Other prisons with reported cases include Aïn Borja with six cases, Mohammedia with five, El Arjat 1 with three, and Kénitra, Bourkaiz in Fès, Benslimane, and Souk El Arbaa each reporting two cases. Additionally, single cases have been identified in Bouarfa, El Kelaâ des Sraghna, Tétouan, Berkane, and Tan Tan.
Among those infected are seven prison staff members, including one doctor. All affected individuals are adhering to the prescribed health protocols. The DGAPR noted that a vaccination campaign is underway, with 11,620 inmates and 332 staff members having voluntarily received vaccinations. This initiative is being conducted under the supervision of regional health and social protection departments.
