Menzenschwand, a small village in the Black Forest region of Germany, has never witnessed any hooligan riots before, wrote media. Last week, around 150 men, believed to be Moroccan football fans of a Casablanca football club, have broken this rule.
The men dressed in black set fire to a village's amateur club FC Burnau's artificially turfed pitch with fireworks. The said to be Moroccan fans are believed to have come from all over central Europe and gathered in the village to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Moroccan football club.
FC Burnau went on its Instagram page to denounce the events, with photos and videos. «Around 1 p.m., more than 100 men dressed in black gathered at our location. What initially seemed innocent and peaceful turned into a disaster at around 4:30 p.m.», the Bernau club said in a statement on Instagram.
«First, smoke flares were lit, then flaming Bengali fireworks were thrown onto the artificial turf. This resulted in numerous deep burn pits and significant material damage», the club added.
The club went on to say that the «perpetrators belong to a Moroccan ultra-group, who were housed in a rural school home in Bernau this weekend». «They are suspected to be from France, Belgium and Italy», the club added.
The incident was already reported to the police, the club added.
