The government of Pedro Sanchez has earmarked €850,000 through the International Foundation for Management and Public Policies of Iberoamerica, a public institution funded by the European Union, to finance the acquisition of 10 ambulances for Morocco. This initiative aims to aid in combating irregular migration.

The foundation has issued a tender for a contract to supply these ambulances to the Moroccan Ministry of Interior. This is part of a broader project designed to support integrated border and migration management, as detailed in tender documents referenced by the Spanish website OK Diario.

The tender is valued at €850,000, with the project expected to be completed within seven months. Interested companies are invited to submit their bids by February 21.

The program, designated as EUTF-NOA-MA-05, carries a total budget of €44 million. It aims to achieve a «double objective»: to bolster Morocco's ability to manage its maritime borders, conduct rescue operations at sea, and protect migrants while adhering to international laws and human rights, according to the EU.

European authorities highlight that «migrant smuggling and human trafficking are major challenges closely linked to integrated border and migration management in this context». As a result, the program incorporates «special considerations to combat cross-border criminal activities and organized criminal networks» by implementing specific actions.

These include supporting security services in tackling irregular migration and «providing equipment to enhance ongoing surveillance efforts.» The program also seeks to «develop capacities to combat migrant smuggling and human trafficking», as stated by the EU.
