The Tetouan Court of First Instance sentenced an 80-year-old man to five months in prison for physically assaulting a woman and her toddler in a viral video shared on social media. The incident, which was captured on video two weeks ago, showed the elderly man beating the woman and her toddler. In addition to the prison term, the court fined him 500 dirhams.
The charges against the accused included «beating and wounding with a weapon against a woman» and «beating and wounding a child».
The arrest occurred after the victim filed a formal complaint. According to media reports, the altercation stemmed from the victim's delay in paying rent to the accused, who is known to rent out rooms in a Tetouan neighborhood.
