Ahmed Boukhari, a former agent of the Moroccan secret services (CAB1) and author of revelations about the Ben Barka case, passed away this Sunday in Casablanca at the age of 87.
A former member of the Cabinet of Studies and Documentation (CAB1), a Moroccan intelligence service in the 1960s, Boukhari became known to the general public in 2001 with the publication of his book «Le Secret», where he provided new insights into the kidnapping and disappearance of Mehdi Ben Barka in 1965 in Paris.
His statements reignited interest in this unresolved case, involving Moroccan agents, members of the French services, and figures of organized crime. He notably claimed that Ben Barka had been transferred to Rabat and died under torture, before his body was dissolved in a vat of acid.
Through his speeches and writings, Ahmed Boukhari helped shed light on a troubled period of Moroccan history, while provoking strong reactions between those who saw him as a sincere repentant and those who challenged his version of events.
