The Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME) brought together, on February 13, over 30 Moroccan experts from renowned universities, international organizations, and key government ministries to discuss strategies for combating water scarcity in Morocco.
The primary goal of the meeting was to identify scientific and practical solutions to improve water resource management, a critical concern given the country’s ongoing water stress and the growing impacts of climate change. Discussions covered a range of topics, including investments in non-conventional water sources, the Water-Energy-Food Nexus, and the potential of emerging technologies in water management.
Experts stressed the need to prioritize scientific research and leverage artificial intelligence to develop innovative approaches. They also highlighted the significant role that Moroccan professionals abroad can play in enhancing the country's water, food, and energy security.
This gathering is part of a broader CCME initiative aimed at producing a forward-looking report on Morocco’s water situation. The report will outline practical, actionable solutions to address the crisis and strengthen national water resource management.
In his opening remarks, CCME President Driss El Yazami underscored the urgency of collective action to secure Morocco's water future. Participants expressed their commitment to working together to implement sustainable, long-term strategies for water resilience.
