After the Polisario Front, the Algerian Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning the visit of French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati to the Sahara.

The ministry noted, in a statement shared to Facebook, that «The visit made by a member of the French government to Western Sahara is deeply concerning, as it deserves strong condemnation on several fronts and constitutes a blatant disregard for international legitimacy by a permanent member of the UN Security Council».

«This visit reinforces Morocco's status quo in Western Sahara, a territory where the decolonization process remains incomplete, and whose people have yet to exercise their inalienable and non-negotiable right to self-determination», claimed the Algerian Ministry.

«This provocative visit paints a shameful picture of solidarity and collusion between colonial powers, both old and new. By taking this step, the French government is clearly and blatantly distancing itself from the United Nations' efforts to advance a resolution to the Western Sahara conflict, based on genuine and unwavering respect for international legitimacy».

Algeria consistently claims in international forums that it is not a party to the conflict and that the dispute is between Morocco and the Polisario Front. However, it continues to use all its diplomatic and financial resources to undermine Morocco's territorial integrity.

French-Algerian relations are currently strained following French President Emmanuel Macron's decision to recognize Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara.

Before Algeria’s statement, the Polisario Front had already condemned Rachida Dati's visit to the Sahara, describing it as «hostile and provocative».
