The President of the French Senate, Gérard Larcher, will visit Morocco from February 23 to 26, 2025, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation. Invited by his Moroccan counterpart, Mohamed Ould Errachid, the visit aims to strengthen interparliamentary cooperation amid a revival of relations between the two countries.
In Rabat, Larcher will meet several high-ranking Moroccan officials, including Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch and Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. His itinerary also includes a visit to the Mohammed V Mausoleum and a meeting with the French community in Morocco.
A key moment of the visit will take place on February 25, when Larcher travels to Laayoune in the Sahara region to deliver a speech. This visit underscores France’s evolving stance on the issue, with Paris now viewing the region’s future within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.
Beyond official meetings, the senatorial delegation will tour major socio-economic projects in the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, including the Arts and Skills Center, the Laayoune University Hospital, and the phosphate port.
