A 17-year-old young man drowned on Wednesday evening while trying to rescue his dog, which had been swept into the sea by strong currents in Tangier.

Although one of his friends tried to help, the powerful waves made it impossible. However, the dog managed to survive and reach the shore safely.

According to Assabah, the incident happened when the young man was with his 22-year-old friend and their dog at the beach, enjoying some leisure time. While they were playing, the waves carried the dog into the sea. The young man tried to swim after it, but the strong currents pulled him deeper into the water.

In a desperate attempt to save him, the second young man jumped into the water but was injured when he hit a rock due to the force of the waves. He had to retreat because of his leg injuries. Meanwhile, the young man who had been trying to rescue the dog disappeared from sight, unable to fight the strong currents.

Local authorities and civil protection teams arrived at the scene and began searching for the missing young man. His injured friend was taken to Mohammed V Regional Hospital in Tangier for treatment.
