Police in Meknes arrested a 52-year-old man on Saturday on charges of torturing, setting fire to, and eating pets, as well as harassing minors and causing disturbances in public spaces.
The arrest came after residents filed a complaint with the Salsabil for Environment and Animal Welfare association in Fez, providing photos and videos documenting the suspect’s actions. According to Assabah newspaper, the complaint detailed how the man, who lives alone, had been capturing cats and dogs for months, torturing them, and eating them—either inside his home or in front of neighbors' houses to provoke them.
Residents also accused the suspect of harassing underage girls, insulting neighbors, and threatening them with obscene language. Additionally, foul odors from his home have caused fear and distress in the neighborhood.
The association forwarded the complaint to the public prosecutor at the Meknes primary court, which ordered an investigation. This led to the suspect's arrest, pending further legal proceedings.
