French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin is expected to meet his Moroccan counterpart, Abdellatif Ouahbi, Sunday in Rabat to deepen cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism and organized crime. This visit is part of a diplomatic rapprochement meant to boost French-Moroccan judicial cooperation.
This has been demonstrated through a series of visits. At the end of February, two alleged accomplices of French criminal Mohamed Amra were arrested in Marrakech at the request of the French justice system. Suspected of participating in Amra's escape in Normandy in May, 2024, the two could be extradited to France.
In January, Morocco extradited to France Félix Bingui, also known as «The Cat». Described by Darmanin as one of the most influential French drug lords, he is suspected of leading the Yoda clan, which dominates drug trafficking in Marseille.
Beyond issues related to organized crime, the topic of consular passes may also be discussed. These documents facilitate the deportation of undocumented immigrants without passports. In October, Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau announced in Rabat that an agreement had been reached to expedite deportation procedures for individuals under an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF).
