Since Tuesday, photos and videos of thick foam flooding the streets of Sidi Bernoussi in Casablanca have been circulating on social media, sparking widespread debate.

The phenomenon, which coincided with heavy rainfall, has raised concerns about potential health and environmental risks.

Speaking to Kifache, Ahmed Afellal, Deputy Mayor of Casablanca, described the incident as «the first of its kind in the city» and confirmed that authorities have launched an investigation to determine its cause. «Specialized committees and relevant bodies are looking into the source of this unusual occurrence», he stated.

Afellal acknowledged that «the sudden appearance of such large amounts of white foam is a serious matter that requires intervention», though he expressed hope that the cause is «not alarming».

Meanwhile, the daily Assabah, citing a «well-informed» source, reported that the foam resulted from a company illegally discharging industrial waste into the sewage system.

The newspaper further noted that several industrial units routinely use the wastewater network to dispose of untreated materials, liquids, and waste.
