Vox has once again focused on the border between Spain and Morocco, calling for equal treatment in both directions. The Spanish far-right political party criticized the «lack of reciprocity» in the handling of citizens from Ceuta and Melilla and demanded a more equitable relationship between the two countries when it comes to trade.

Emilio Buendía, a member of Vox's leadership in Melilla, pointed out that Morocco's unilateral closure of the border in 2018 had harmed both cities. He blamed the Spanish government's lack of response for what he phrased as the «inequality». «At Vox, we hope for trade reciprocity between Spain and Morocco at our southern border», Buendía stated, Thursday, emphasizing the need for measures ensuring fairness.

The party urged Spain to apply the principle of reciprocity across all ports and borders with Morocco. «Failure to act would leave all Spaniards, especially those in Ceuta and Melilla, in a difficult position», Vox warned.

It is worth noting that commercial customs have resumed between Morocco and enclaves Ceuta and Melilla. After years of suspension, the first commercial shipments crossed from Melilla into Morocco back in January, 2025. In February, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares confirmed that both customs posts are now operating «with total normality».
