Mustapha Lakhsem, the President of the Imouzzer Kandar Municipality, announced his intention to resign from his position at the head of the municipal council, citing what he described as a «blockage» that has hindered the implementation of development projects and stalled the city's progress. Lakhsem explained that while authorities may think they are fighting him personally, they are actually undermining the city he deeply loves and cherishes, which is his birthplace.

In a video posted on his social media accounts on Wednesday, Lakhsem, who was born in Hanau, Germany, said, «I took this position with the aim of working and developing, and it was never my intention to put the city in a difficult situation. I wanted to contribute to its development, but the authorities have gone against the will of the citizens. They think they are fighting me, but the reality is quite the opposite».

Lakhsem added that he plans to officially submit his resignation to the authorities on October 1, after completing the projects he announced and resolving pending court cases. He emphasized, «I want to leave my position with a clear conscience, free of any accusations or problems».

A former boxer, Lakhsem pointed out that the implementation of some projects had been delayed, such as the launch of the waste collection company's operations on April 10, which came after a two-year delay, as well as the opening of a market, for which significant efforts had been made.

Regarding other projects, Lakhsem mentioned the rehabilitation of a new hospital in the city, the creation of sports facilities near residential neighborhoods, and the opening of a covered swimming pool. He also expressed his interest in developing Ain Sultan Park, aiming to enhance the surrounding area with seating facilities and spaces for children.

Lakhsem also revealed plans to develop a space for traditional equestrian events and is currently in the process of acquiring land for the project. He confirmed that once these projects are completed, he will leave his position, emphasizing that his decision is not one of weakness, but rather a result of his deep love for the country. He concluded, «I regret not being able to achieve all the goals I set at the beginning».

It is worth noting that the investigating judge at the Fez Court of Appeal has recently summoned witnesses to testify in relation to a complaint filed against Mustafa Lakhsem regarding his alleged involvement in embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds. Lakhsem has vehemently denied these accusations.

A hearing is expected to take place on March 25 as part of the ongoing judicial investigation, aimed at uncovering the details of the case and determining legal responsibilities.
