Coinciding with the world's celebration of the International Day of Happiness on March 20th each year, the United Nations' «Sustainable Development Solutions Network», established in 2012, published its annual report on the happiest countries in the world for 2025. Morocco fell five places from last year's ranking, landing at 112th globally out of 147 countries.

Morocco was ranked 107th in the 2024 report, 100th in the 2023 report, the same position in 2022, 106th in the 2021 report, 97th in the 2020 report, 89th in the 2019 report, 84th in the 2018 report, and 84th in the 2017 report, as well as 90th in 2016.

The World Happiness Report bases its country rankings on several indicators. Morocco ranked 112th globally in the generosity index, 129th in the volunteering index, 32nd in the helping strangers index, 69th in neighborliness, and 78th in safety.

In the Middle East and North Africa region, Morocco ranked eleventh, behind Israel (8th), the United Arab Emirates (21st), Kuwait (30th), Saudi Arabia (32nd), Oman (52nd), Bahrain (59th), Libya (79th), Algeria (84th), Iraq (101st), and Palestine (108th).

Globally, Finland maintained its position as the happiest country in the world, topping the list for the eighth consecutive year, with Scandinavian countries dominating the top rankings. Denmark came second, followed by Iceland and then Sweden. Meanwhile, Lebanon, Sierra Leone, and Afghanistan were at the bottom of the list.

The report highlighted that in kinder societies, the gap in happiness levels is narrower, stating that the least happy individuals benefit the most from kinder communities, which leads to a more balanced distribution of happiness in countries where there is an expectation of cooperation from others.

It emphasized that the global level of kindness rose during the COVID-19 pandemic and has continued to this day. Despite a slight decrease between 2023 and 2024, charitable acts remain approximately 10% higher than pre-pandemic levels.
