The Higher Scientific Council in Morocco has announced how much Zakat al-Fitr should be given this year (1446 AH/2025), both in food and in money. They said that the traditional way is to give food that's commonly eaten in the country. This should be equal to a «prophetic sa'» per person, which is four «mudds«– using the Prophet's measure. That roughly translates to two and a half kilograms (2.5 kg) of grains or flour.
However, the Council has also set a cash value for this year: 23 dirhams. People can choose to give more if they want, as God says: «And whoever volunteers good, then indeed, God is Appreciative and Knowing».
It's best to give Zakat al-Fitr after the Fajr prayer and before going to the Eid prayer. But, it's also okay to give it one or two days before Eid, and you can give it in cash if you prefer.
