In recent months, French police have intensified checks, particularly at train stations and on international trains, amid diplomatic tensions with Algeria and a standoff over the repatriation of expelled nationals. On Thursday evening, four men were arrested at Nîmes train station during a joint operation involving the national police, CRS 47, and rail security services.

The checks targeted two TGV trains arriving from Spain—one from Barcelona and the other from Madrid. Among those detained were two Algerians, aged 22 and 24, a 37-year-old Moroccan, and a 26-year-old Colombian. According to the Gard National Police, they were removed from the train for lacking «documents proving their identity.»

After being placed in administrative detention for verification of their residency status, two were released following the checks, while the other two were issued an Obligation to Leave French Territory (OQTF).

This operation is part of a broader crackdown on immigration controls in France, as the deportation of foreigners in an irregular situation remains a politically and diplomatically sensitive issue.
