The Malian army announced on Wednesday that it had carried out airstrikes targeting positions held by «terrorist groups». «The General Staff of the Armed Forces informs the public that intelligence operations and the pursuit of terrorist groups are ongoing across the entire national territory. As a result, numerous terrorist bases and logistical hideouts, identified through aerial surveillance—particularly in the Northeast and Southeast sectors within a 400 km radius of Kidal—continue to be addressed», the army stated in a communiqué.

«During the night of April 1st to 2nd, a routine surveillance flight spotted a movement of pickup trucks carrying armed terrorists and their logistics 3.5 kilometers southeast of Tin-Zaouitene, just 2 kilometers from the border», the communiqué added.

Following the «successful» execution of the strike, the same source reported that «subsequent analysis of the explosion revealed the presence of large quantities of explosive substances».

For the record, the Malian army had announced on Tuesday that one of its drones «crashed near Tin-Zawatene in the Kidal region», while both the Azawad Liberation Front and the Algerian army claimed responsibility for the destruction of a Malian Akinci drone.

On March 17, a Malian forces drone destroyed Algerian trucks, registered in Bordj Baji Mokhtar, in the same border area. The trucks were transporting aid intended for opposition groups opposing the Bamako government.
