The public prosecutor's office in Tangier decided, Thursday, to pursue legal action against a young man who appeared in a video performing a song with lyrics deemed to incite «drunkenness and immorality» during an Eid al-Fitr celebration held in the Bir Chifae neighborhood of the Beni Makada district.
The decision followed a hearing conducted by the judicial police. The individual was released on bail, and a date has been scheduled for his appearance before the public prosecutor at the Court of First Instance.
The widely circulated video sparked a wave of criticism, particularly after many children were seen engaging with the song and repeating lyrics such as : «A kiss, a flirt, then off into the sea… I down the drink, get drunk, and forget it all». The video drew strong condemnation from child protection associations, which denounced the song's content as being contrary to educational and moral values.
