Morocco's National Library embraces digital future with new partnership
DR

The Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform and the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication signed a partnership agreement on Wednesday in Marrakech. This agreement aims to promote the digitization of services offered by the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco (BNRM), on the sidelines of the third edition of the Gitex Africa fair (April 14-16).

Signed by the Deputy Minister in charge of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, and the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, this agreement seeks to initiate the overhaul of the BNRM's institutional portal, with a focus on promoting digital book offerings and the legal deposit service.

It also includes plans to advance the digitization of old periodicals and documents available at the BNRM, as well as historical manuscripts. Additionally, a dedicated software program for people with special needs will be implemented. The agreement also aims to start digitizing the collections of books donated to the BNRM, making them accessible to student researchers.

In a statement to the press on this occasion, Bensaid indicated that the ministry remains committed to the digitization of its services to bring its cultural activities as close as possible to all citizens, especially the youth.

“Although the National Library of the Kingdom is based in Rabat, its services can be offered, thanks to their digitization, throughout the Kingdom,” the minister emphasized, adding that other services will also be digitized very soon to simplify processes and offer a maximum number of services, similar to the Youth Pass.
