Authorities in Benahmed, Settat province, with support from the judicial police in Settat, have launched an investigation under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor's office following the discovery of human remains in the restrooms of the city's grand mosque on Sunday.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, bones and human limbs were found in plastic bags, and several bladed weapons were seized at the scene. The scientific and technical police have since conducted the necessary examinations.
The initial investigation led to the arrest of a suspect believed to be connected to the crime. He was detained near the mosque in a disoriented state, wearing blood-stained underwear. Personal belongings of uncertain origin were discovered at his home, and their potential link to the victim is being investigated.
The human remains are currently undergoing genetic analysis to identify the victim, alongside DNA samples taken from both the crime scene and the suspect, in an effort to uncover the circumstances and motives behind this gruesome crime.
