A drone from the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) targeted vehicles belonging to the Polisario Front. «The strike took place on Thursday, April 24, in the Mijek region, east of the Sand Wall», a Moroccan security source told Yabiladi. The area is considered by the Front as a «liberated territory».
«The exact toll of the strike remains unclear, but it may have killed between six and eight fighters. Typically, a Polisario vehicle used in attacks against FAR units carries up to four people», the same source explained.
The operation comes as the Polisario Front seeks to persuade international public opinion of the existence of a «war» in Western Sahara.
On Thursday, supporters of the Front attempted to downplay the significance of the Moroccan drone strike. In messages circulating on social media, they claimed that the FAR operation had targeted Mauritanian gold prospectors. However, Mauritanian media—especially outlets in the Zouerate region, which are usually quick to report such incidents—have not published any information on the matter.
