Polisario : Gunfire exchange between militias on behalf of drug traffickers
DR

The Polisario militias are increasingly becoming openly involved in the ongoing war between drug trafficking gangs in the Tindouf camps. «A new episode in this series unfolded yesterday, this time with the direct participation of soldiers and gendarmes», a well-informed source told Yabiladi.

«The two factions clashed on behalf of rival criminal gangs, each seeking to control the cocaine and psychotropic drug trade within the camps. The involvement of security forces is not surprising, as high-ranking Polisario officials are the true orchestrators of this illicit activity», the same source added.

This latest incident comes just weeks after armed confrontations between two drug trafficking gangs erupted at the end of April in the «Laayoune camp». These confrontations were observed by the Polisario leadership without any response. Since then, a major trafficker, closely linked to the commander of a military region, was abducted by «unknown» individuals.

It is worth recalling that in February, Algerian soldiers were targeted by live gunfire in the «Boujdour camp» by armed elements of the Polisario pursuing Sahrawi drug traffickers.
