Police arrest key member of Morocco-based human trafficking network in Canary Islands

Recently, officers from the Spanish National Police on the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands arrested a man suspected of belonging to a criminal organization involved in facilitating irregular migration. This arrest is part of an ongoing investigation targeting a network specializing in human trafficking.

According to local media in the archipelago, the network operates from Morocco, using the coast near the city of Tan-Tan as its base to transport migrants to the Canary Islands via inflatable boats.

The arrested individual was responsible for receiving payments, coordinating internal movements, and providing logistical support to migrants upon their arrival on the islands. Investigations reveal the network charged over 4,000 euros for each smuggled migrant.

This organization is highly specialized, with clearly defined roles among its members, including recruitment, transportation, monitoring, and financial management. It also uses specialized logistics, such as four-wheel-drive vehicles and technological tools to handle payments and coordinate operations.

The detainee was brought before the primary court, where the judge ordered his provisional detention.
