Following the directives of King Mohammed VI, Morocco's embassy in Damascus officially reopened last Sunday, resuming full administrative operations.

In his address at the 34th Arab League Summit held on May 17 in Baghdad, the King announced Morocco’s decision to reopen its embassy in the Syrian capital, which had been closed since 2012. «This step will open broader horizons in the historical relations between our two countries and our two peoples», he stated.

The monarch also reaffirmed Morocco’s consistent historical position on Syria, as expressed in his letter to President Ahmed Acharaa namely, support for the Syrian people's legitimate aspirations for freedom, security, and stability, along with a commitment to preserving Syria’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

On the same day, Syrian Foreign Minister Assaad Al-Chaibani expressed his country’s gratitude and appreciation for the King’s decision to restore diplomatic ties.

The reopening of the embassy also marks the completion of administrative formalities and renovation work ahead of its relocation to a new site, part of the renewed momentum in Moroccan-Syrian relations.
