The BDS France movement, advocating for boycott, divestment, and sanctions, has recently criticized the Parisian restaurant Dar Mima for offering wines sourced from Israeli settlements. In a letter addressed to the establishment, co-founded by Jamel Debbouze and Laurent de Gourcuff atop the Arab World Institute (IMA), the group questioned this «incomprehensible» decision.

«These wines are mediocre and scarcely served elsewhere in Paris. Moreover, Israel is not part of the 'Arab world', and we can only surmise that your decision is politically motivated, which does not reflect well on you», states the letter from BDS France. The letter also points out the «absence of the wine list» on the restaurant's website.

«The least step in supporting the Palestinian people's struggle against the injustices they endure would be to boycott Israeli products, as called for by Palestinian civil society since 2005», the letter continues, noting that Dar Mima has yet to respond.

Among the wines, «some originate from the Golan Heights, a Syrian territory illegally annexed by Israel», highlighting that «exploiting resources from occupied lands is prohibited», BDS France stresses. They argue that «these wines are therefore simply illegal». «If the law were upheld, you could face charges of handling stolen goods and complicity in the crime of colonization», the group further asserts.

Additionally, they point out that «amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza, with destruction, killings, and widespread famine orchestrated by the Israeli army», the sale of these wines in the restaurant «fuels the war economy» and constitutes «an affront to all humanity».

On this basis, BDS France has urged the restaurant owners to «immediately remove these wines from [their] menu».
