Serbia arrests 11 linked to pig head incidents at Paris mosques

Eleven people have been arrested in Serbia as part of an investigation into a series of criminal acts in France, including the shocking discovery of nine pig heads placed in front of Muslim places of worship in the Paris area earlier this month. Serbian authorities said Monday that the suspects were allegedly «under the influence of a foreign service» when they carried out attacks targeting synagogues and mosques.

Charged with «criminal association, discrimination, and espionage», the suspects are expected to appear before a prosecutor within 48 hours. Between April and September 2025, they allegedly engaged in a string of offenses, such as splattering green paint on the Holocaust Museum, synagogues, and a Jewish restaurant, distributing stickers with genocidal slogans, and placing pig heads outside Muslim religious sites in Paris. According to the Serbian Ministry of the Interior, cited by AFP, similar actions also took place in Germany.

Authorities believe the aim was to spread «ideas promoting and inciting hatred, discrimination, and violence based on skin color, religion, nationality, and ethnic origin». The ministry said the group was allegedly recruited by a twelfth suspect who remains at large. While all those arrested are Serbian nationals, the nationality of the foreign intelligence service they are thought to have worked for has not been disclosed.

On September 10, the Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that the perpetrators of the pig head incidents were foreigners who had since left French territory. In the initial phase of the investigation, five pig heads were discovered, including one with the word «MACRON» painted in blue. In a related case, a farmer in Normandy told police that two men had purchased about ten pig heads from him; their vehicle, reportedly registered in Serbia, further raised suspicions of foreign involvement.

Investigators later noted that the same vehicle had been seen in Paris, and that the suspects had used a Croatian phone line, which was eventually traced to the French-Belgian border after the incidents.
