The group of Istiqlal deputies, an integral part of the government majority, challenged the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, on Monday during an oral question session at the House of Representatives. They questioned her about the persistent rise in consumer prices.
In response, the minister, a member of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), attributed this surge to «successive and complex international crises that do not concern only our country». She recalled the measures taken by the government to «preserve the purchasing power of citizens», notably mentioning the creation of «price inspection commissions» and the «subsidization of several essential goods».
This explanation was deemed insufficient by the Istiqlal MPs, who criticized the fact that the «big speculators» and «large retail chains» escape the inspection campaigns conducted by the government, which target «only small merchants».
The issue of rising prices and purchasing power is already shaping up to be a major focus of the 2026 legislative election campaign.
