Moroccan government aids 580,000 farmers with 2.4 billion dirhams to preserve livestock
DR

Approximately 580,000 livestock farmers have so far received direct aid totaling nearly 2.42 billion dirhams as part of efforts to preserve Morocco’s national livestock, said Mustapha Baitas, Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesperson, on Thursday.

This figure represents 48% of all eligible farmers, Baitas noted in response to a question on the effectiveness of the farmer support program, during the press briefing following the Government Council meeting.

He added that disbursement operations will continue until all registered beneficiaries have been covered. The aid intended for the purchase of fodder was paid out at the beginning of November, along with the first installment dedicated to preserving female sheep and goats.

Baitas recalled that instead of relying on traditional support mechanisms, the government opted for a system of direct financial aid, with a total package (first and second installments) of 12.8 billion dirhams.

During the first installment (6 billion dirhams), several measures were implemented, including:

- direct financial support to farmers for purchasing fodder to feed national livestock, and
- direct financial support for the preservation of female sheep and goats intended for reproduction.

This direct aid program will also support farmer debt relief in partnership with Crédit Agricole and will fund vaccination campaigns and technical assistance for farmers, the minister added.
