The World Health Organization's (WHO) regional committee for the Eastern Mediterranean has officially recognized Morocco for its successful control of hepatitis B, as announced by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.

This recognition highlights Morocco's ongoing efforts in the fight against epidemic diseases and signifies a major milestone in the country's progress in preventing, screening, and managing viral hepatitis B, according to a press release from the ministry.

During a session held on November 13 in Cairo, the WHO regional committee announced this decision, marking a significant step towards Morocco's strategic goal of eradicating hepatitis B as a public health concern, the ministry added.

Morocco's recognition as a leader in controlling hepatitis B is attributed to notable national achievements in several critical areas. These include the systematic vaccination of newborns through an effective national immunization program, the enhancement of epidemiological surveillance and laboratory diagnostic capabilities, and the continuous development and updating of treatment protocols, informed by the latest national survey on viral hepatitis B.

On this occasion, the ministry expressed gratitude for the vital role played by healthcare professionals at all levels in planning, implementing, and monitoring public health programs, as well as in continuously improving their effectiveness and impact.

The ministry also extended its thanks to national and international partners for their support, which has been instrumental in achieving this significant public health success in Morocco.
