The Moroccan Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, held talks this Tuesday in Marrakech with France's Interior Minister, Laurent Nuñez. The meeting provided an opportunity for both officials to «discuss a range of issues of mutual interest for their respective ministries», as stated by the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior.
Both ministers expressed their satisfaction with the robust bilateral cooperation in security and migration, a partnership built on mutual trust, ongoing dialogue, and aligned views on strategic matters.
Laftit and Nuñez highlighted that «this cooperation aligns perfectly with the Declaration of exceptional and strong partnership, signed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, and His Excellency Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, during the State visit of October 2024», according to the statement.
Regarding migration, the two ministers underscored the positive role played by the permanent French-Moroccan Joint Group on Migration, which serves as an effective platform for dialogue and coordination on these issues.
They also explored ways to enhance the exchange of expertise and information, aiming to sustain a proactive approach to addressing various threats, particularly those from terrorist activities and criminal networks, especially in the Sahel and Sahara regions.
This meeting coincides with Laurent Nuñez's inaugural visit to Morocco following his appointment as Minister of the Interior on October 12.
